All matter can move from one state to another but it might require extreme temperatures or extreme pressure. For example, if we put an ice cube at room temperature for it to become a liquid, it will need energy in the form of heat to change its physical state. This happens because atoms in a liquid need more energy. There is a special temperature that substances have, called the melting point that is the temperature at which solids become liquids. In the case of water, its melting point is a little over 0°Celsius. In the case of other substances such as gold, sugar or salt, the melting point is higher than the melting point of water. The revere of the melting process is what we know as freezing. As pointed before, the atoms in a liquid need more energy because they move faster. But as a liquid cools, the atoms need less energy because they slow down ad become close together. The attractive forces trap the particles and crystals begin to form. All of this happens at a special te

kinetic theory of matter /Atoms/matter in motion/ temperature and heat

kinetic theory of matter Matter is anything that occupies space and has mass.Matter is present in three states, which are known as the states of matter. these are solid liquid or gas Atoms The atom is the smallest particle of matter the combination of two or more atoms for a molecule. Most matter is made up of atoms and molecules, the physical state of matter depends on how its atoms are arranged and how they move matter in motion a Scottish botanist discovered that particules of atoms and molecules move in different direction. the constant random motion of tiny particles called brownian motion in his honor this idea that the particles of all matter are in constant random motion is called kinetic theory of matter.the energy of moving particles is known as kinetic energy temperature and heat the temperature is the avarage kinetic enrgy of the particles that make up the material. when the temperature is high the particles move faster. the lower the temperature, the particl

thinking critically developing skills

thinking critically 1 much discussion has focused on the need to drve more efficient cars and use less electricity if the law of conservation of energy is true, why are people concerned about energy usage? because energy is tranformed most of the time from natural resources such as fossil fuel which are non remewable resources. 2 if heat flows in only one direction, how can both hot and cold liquids reach room temperature as they sit on a table? the hot liquid loores heat as it reaches room temperature and the cold liquids goin heat as it wach woo temperature 3 think about what happens to jack and jill in the nursery rhyme. What kinds ofenergy are used how are they different? howwaseach energy form used? jack and jill used potential energy to climb up the lfill. them this potential energy was transformed into kinetic as they fell down. 4 compare the three temperature scale you learned about. how are they different? how are they similar? the three temperature scale differ

skill builder Endothermic Exothermic

Endothermic -  braking bread Exothermic - striking a match to light it - exploding dynamite - burning wood ...................................................................................................................................... - baking bread :  is endothermic because you need energy in the form of heat to be absorbed to be able to bake the bread - burning wood :  is  Exothermic because it releases heat - striking a match to light it :   is an exothermic reaction, energy is released to nu hem the match is streak -exploding dynamite: exothermic because energy is being released

The garbage pollution problem in Barranquilla

Imagen
The garbage pollution problem in Barranquilla What is garbage pollution? Garbage pollution means littering civic waste particularly household waste into places not designated to dispose it off. It is mainly caused by mismanagement of solid waste when garbage is not lifted from streets and areas to carry it to landfill sites for its final disposal. It all happens owing to poor system of either garbage collection or its disposal. CAUSES OF GARBAGE POLLUTION ·          Not having a proper system of garbage collection. ·          Improper disposal mechanism EFFECTS OF GARBAGE POLLUTION ·          Garbage pollution is main cause of various bacterial diseases and gastro is one of them. Moreover, typhoid, malaria and various infectious diseases are also caused by it. How does garbage pollution affect my community? Barranquilla produces 1.600 tons of garbage each day that is taken to the landfill El Henequen. This landfill does not comply with the environmental managemen
